SPEED BUMPS

Today, Larry doesn't have appointments until the afternoon, one with his case management doctor and a nutritionist. This is wonderful because that gives us the morning to catch up with more mundane tasks.

Yesterday, Larry started on his first dose of one of the oral medications. He will be increasing it some each day until next week when he'll be at the dosage he'll be taking while at home.

We had a rather eye opening meeting with the Financial Counselor. She (a very warm and helpful woman) informed us that the infusions Larry will be receiving every 3 weeks for 8 months plus this once a week this month cost nearly $11K a piece. We are hoping his insurance will cover all or most of this. We've paid for the first infusion but know that we'll soon be out of funds. If the insurance company comes through what we paid will be put as a credit on his account. We will also need to have a doctor in Minnesota who will be willing to work with the clinic here to continue his treatment in coordination with his case management physician in Houston. This seems daunting but as our guest pastor preached last Sunday we need to ask God for big things. PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYER ABOUT THIS. 

I've been wondering why the clinic here keeps asking for the films of his previous scans. Now I know why.

Yesterday, we were done around 1 pm at the clinic but then we spent about an hour or so in our car calling  RMC and Lakeview Clinic and MN Oncology because the paperwork I'd spent days on prior to our trip down here had not actually accomplished what we thought. We had been given the wrong forms from a clinic in MN as to how to send the reports, labs, etc.

When we finally got those in process (we hope) we went to Costco, ate lunch at the townhouse and then went to find a Trader Joe's.

We've been sleeping well. It has been challenging to eat on a timely basis with the many technical hiccups we've recently had to deal with as well just the newness of the situation. Hopefully we will get into a bit of a routine before we leave here.

I'm back and the 2 main challenges remain:  coverage for 2 of the 3 medications and finding that oncologist or doctor who would help with the administering of the infusion. Larry will start on the infusion on Monday. Please pray he does well on it then his doctor can make a case to the insurance company if they deny coverage and to a MN doctor.We are supposed to get an automated voice message from the insurance company tomorrow with their answer for one of the medications. There are a couple other options but those would take a matter of weeks to be sorted out. We would prefer to be home before Christmas.

We met with a nutritionist today as well. We learned some good things, some of which we already knew and have started to implement. We also received important information about what Larry shouldn't eat while on medication.
